City encourages public to attend the Masiphumelele Informal Trading Market Open Day

The informal trading plan for Masiphumelele was approved by Council in July 2022. As part of the plan, a portion of erf 1728 Noordhoek, on Kommetjie Main Road, will be constructed as an informal trading market.
The market will accommodate 66 trading opportunities to serve a variety of traders and will include trading bays, kiosks, toilets, an office, a meeting room, parking, and a refuse area.
‘The City’s goal is to create dignified and accessible trading spaces where traders and customers feel comfortable and confident enough to engage. With this open day, we are encouraging the community of Masiphumelele and its surrounds to learn all about the trading plan and how the market space will affect them.
‘I have had the opportunity to meet with the traders working in this area and have helped to motivate for this project because it will make a real difference in the business conditions of the space. This holistic approach to the development of Cape Town’s informal economy speaks to our commitment as a City to support communities with tangible, sustainable growth,’ said Alderman James Vos, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth.
